FEDERATION OF WESTERN OUTDOOR CLUBS

_NO.11_
_HANFORD REACH STUDY BILLS_

The Army Corps of Engineers has recently proposed dredging the Hanford Reach in order to construct a barge canal.  This canal poses a significant threat to the sensitive fish, wildlife and plant habitat of the Reach.

Legislation has therefore been proposed (S 1850 and HR 3614) to preserve and study the Hanford Reach of the Columbia River in order to protect this last great free-flowing stretch of the Columbia from damming or dredging.  These bills would provide for a Wild and Scenic River study of this area.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs supports the Hanford Reach Study Bills and calls for the early passage of this important legislation.
