RESOLUTION #37:  SOFTWOOD LUMBER FAIR COMPETITION BILL (H.R. 2181)

Subsidies to the Canadian softwood lumber industry encourage continuation of high levels of logging in British Columbia's old growth forests.
The Softwood Lumber Fair Competition bill (H.R. 2181) would require the President of the United States to undertake measures (through a tax, quota or toherwise) to keep Canadian lumber imports at levels that do not exceed historical averages.  Such measures would offset the advantages provided by these subsidies.
The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs calls upon the U.S. Congress to enact this legislation.
