PRESERVE THE WATER QUALITY OF THE McKENZIE DRAINAGE

Past studies of the one hundred tributaries of the McKenzie River of the Willamette National Forest in Oregon have demonstrated serious degradation of the McKenzie's watershed because of logging.

This watershed provides drinking water for 350,000 people, and it is important that the watershed not be degraded nor contaminated further.  The water supply should be free of pesticides and herbicides, which some want to use as part of managing the forests there.

Too little of the virgin forests in that watershed remain now to ensure that water of high quality is produced.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs opposes using pesticides and herbicides within this watershed and opposes any more removal of the old growth in the McKenzie River watershed, and in any other watershed where similar conditions prevail.
