OPPOSITION TO CLOSURE OF SMALL, DISPERSED, PRIMITIVE CAMPGROUNDS

Over the years, many primitive campgrounds have been developed throughout the national forests and lands administered by the BLM.  These are widely dispersed through their holdings.

Now these agencies favor having just a few large campgrounds with full facilities, managed by private concessionaires.  They are trying to concentrate camping and use at them.

The smaller, dispersed, primitive camp grounds are being closed and phased out.  These campgrounds put users in closer touch with nature and have a more natural, less urban feeling.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs opposes closure of these smaller, dispersed, and primitive campgrounds and opposes privatization of public services and would prefer that professional public employees continue to serve the public in maintaining these campgrounds.
